Can I measure productivity with my existing cameras?
What to check before reusing cameras to count units, measure timing and observe workflow.

Start with a specific question
Choose a visible event: a box crossing an area or an order reaching pickup. Define the beginning and end of the event. An image alone does not explain why an operation is delayed.
Check whether the scene is usable
Review a sample during normal operation and busy hours. Look for blocked objects, reflections, low light and changes in position. Placement and image quality affect analysis; a useful surveillance camera may not show enough detail to count a product.
Review compatibility and access
Prepare camera and recorder makes and models, available resolution and the authorized access method. Confirm whether analysis can run on the device, on a server or through another service. Integration capabilities vary by device.
Validate before expanding
For a pilot, compare automated counts with manual counts over the same interval. Record false counts and missed events. Agree on acceptable error for your operational decision and repeat the test when the scene changes.
What to prepare for an assessment
Bring a device inventory, an area diagram and the metric you need. Share footage only through the agreed channel and with the agreed permissions. The assessment should identify reusable equipment, necessary changes and what cannot be measured from the current view.
